For the first time, I brought my paints on vacation and was able to make a few quick watercolor sketches of our trip.

What have I been up to the last year?

Well, I taught two classes this summer, one on Pouring Techniques, and the other Putting People into Your Paintings.

Also, we have been traveling a lot. We spent three weeks in South America (Amazon, Andes and Galapagos) . I have many beautiful images to paint.

In March we are traveling to Cuba. So, I should have enough inspiration to get back to a more regular painting schedule. You'll be the first to know!

JUNE 11, 2015

Back in New England after a two week trip to France, the Cote d'Azur and Paris. I can't wait to settle down and start painting again. I have some great pictures.

I will be starting my summer watercolor painting classes on June 13. These are three beginner landscape classes.

The schedule is as follows:

July 18, Painting skies and water

August Painting a mountain scene.

I spent last weekend at a TOM JONES watercolor workshop. He has such a loose, limber style that loosens one up! And a great teacher. Take his class if you can.

I am back in Florida. Finally unpacked the art supplies. I have a collection of small paintings done for a local art gallery to show. And I think I shall concentrate on florals this summer. Also, I really need to get back to my plein aire group in Stuart. They are very accomplished artists and I learn a lot from them.

If you're in the neighborhood on Sept 5th, come to Kinderhook Group Realty on North Street in Pittsfield, Ma. My New Orleans collection "Lagniappe" will be hanging there as part of First Fridays Artwalk in Pittsfield. 5 to 8 pm and through the month of September.

It's been awhile since I have had time to post. I've been busy, busy, busy teaching watercolor classes, so I have few paintings to show for the summer.

I have been working on a large (24 x 36) watercolor of Jean Lafitte National Park, but somehow it's not looking too good, so it has joined others "under the bed" until I feel like working on it again. Maybe next summer.

We will be heading south at the end of September. Time to change the paint palette from northern cool to southern warm.

Just returned yesterday from four days in Sarasota, FL attending the FWS convention. So many great watercolor artists demonstrating their skills and techniques. So many workshops in which I could participate. I came home with new materials and new ways to use them. It's such fun to try new things. I always learn so much when I attend the convention.

Getting ready to change my color palette from New England to Florida.

Next week, I am headed out to Sarasota to the Florida Watercolor Society convention. There I will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best watercolorists around. Going with 7 artist friends.

I also have to prepare paintings for delivery to "Vive Florida 500", at the Elliott Museum in Stuart, "Nature Underwater", in Hobe Sound, Molly's Gallery in Stuart, Art Framing Gallery in Jensen Beach, Art Mundo in Sewells Point, as well as our own Savanna Club Gallery.

We spent 16 days on a tour of Panama and Cartegena Colombia which included three days on a yacht sailing through the Panama Canal. I took almost 1000 pictures, and surely some of them will show up on my canvas. For the first time, I took along a small watercolor travel set, hoping I would have a minute or two to paint. Here are the four I was able to find time to do. I would definitely do it again. Trick is to realize you are only trying to grab a moment in time.

I spent today hanging my paintings for an art exhibit at Art Mundo in Fort Pierce. I am sharing the space with friend Liz Taylor who specializes in animal paintings. My exhibit has as a theme paintings of New Orleans, reflecting my southern heritage and is entitled "Lagniappe" (a little something extra in creole french). Liz's exhibit is "fur, feathers and fins". One doesn't realize how many hours it takes to plan and produce an art exhibit. With the help of Mr Bill (my husband), it took the three of us 8 hours to properly hang all the paintings.

I am attending a two day watercolor workshop presented by Robin Lee Markewicz. She does magical things with transparent watercolors.

January 26th, 2013
Spent today at Adams Ranch with plein air painters from Art Mundo. Thanks to Bud Adams for permission. This is really "old Florida" landscape. I painted the chickee at the sulphur springs ponds. There were about 20 artists working in all mediums.

We are headed to Freeport, Bahamas, for a few days. I hope to get some really good pictures for my next painting projects.

One of my New Orleans paintings, "Jackson Square," was selected for the Florida Watercolor Society On Line Show. This was such a fun picture to paint. I put in all kinds of local people and local activities.

November 28, 2012
We arrived back in Florida in September. Our art community is very busy, and I've been painting regularly to keep up with the gallery demands. Each year our Savanna Club Fine Arts League Gallery Director comes up with a challenging list of subjects for us to paint. However, the new painting of the Sandhill Crane is one I've wanted to do for some time.

I have three paintings on exhibit right now at Art Mundo. They are ones I did in connection with their plein air paint outs called "Brush with Nature." I also have two paintings to go on exhibit at the Seal Museum starting Dec 1, in conjunction with my Art Calendar, "Bridge at Nanjing" and "Alluvion"

I will soon be switching my palette colors from the Florida brights to the New England greens and browns.

I have a beautiful spring garden up north, but the early warm weather caused the daffodils, crocus and forsythia to bloom early. I hope I have a few azaleas left. Next bloom cycle is June, with the rhododendrons, Kousa Dogwood and roses.

Since I am doing more and more plein aire painting, I hope the flowers are beautiful enough to paint.

June 2 and 3, 2012
I am participating in a plein aire workshop with Yura Adams. If it doesn't rain, we will paint at the Stockbridge Bowl on Saturday.
